What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is a virtually invisible, comfortable and very effective way to straighten your teeth and transform the appearance of your smile. It is extremely popular with patients for good reason, as the removable aligners make treatment easy and no unsightly metal is included in their creation.
All you need to do for treatment to be effective is to wear your custom made aligners for the recommended 20-22 hours per day, allowing the gradual and gentle forces to work on your teeth. Invisalign® doesn’t interfere with your everyday life, and you can continue enjoying whichever food and drink you choose as the aligner can be removed for mealtimes and to brush your teeth.
How can Invisalign® help my smile?
If you’ve always dreamed of a straighter smile, the chances are that we can help with Invisalign®. The innovative system can be used to correct a wide range of orthodontic problems. If your teeth are crowded, crooked, you have a gap you’d prefer to close or your bite is not right, Invisalign’s® trusted aligners can gradually transform your smile. Straightening your teeth also has a positive effect on your overall appearance, as bringing your teeth into line enhances your facial shape and structure with additional support.
Straighten my smile! What does Invisalign® treatment involve?
Book an appointmentIf you are interested in Invisalign® to change the appearance of your smile, we begin your initial appointment by examining your teeth to ensure you are suitable for treatment. We use advanced technology to take digital scans and images, used to create precise, accurate and comfortable clear aligners. We can even use digital technology to show you a preview of your new smile!
Your bespoke treatment plan is formulated, and we discuss this with you in detail. We use innovative software to show you step by step how your teeth will move during your straightening journey.
We show you how to fit your custom clear aligners in your mouth and remove them effectively. You need to wear each aligner for 1-2 weeks at a time, moving your teeth little by little until your perfect smile is revealed. The aligners control the amount and timing of the movement, and we keep a close eye on your progress at regular appointments to ensure everything is staying on track.
When you have worn your last aligner, your treatment is complete and you can start properly showing off your new smile! We check you are happy with your results and provide you with a retainer to keep your newly straight teeth in position for the long term.
Frequently asked questions
Invisalign® is convenient, easy to use and achieves incredible results. It is the clear choice for people looking for a cosmetic approach to orthodontic treatment, and has helped millions of patients worldwide gain their dream smile confidently, without feeling self conscious of visible metal braces. The fact that Invisalign® blends seamlessly into everyday life and routines is a large part of its popularity.
In order for your treatment to be the most successful and effective, your aligners need to be worn for around 22 hours per day. They can be taken out of your mouth for eating, drinking and to enable you to brush your teeth thoroughly. If you play contact sport, it is best to remove them for this too.
With Invisalign®, there are no restrictions on the food or drink you choose to eat. As the aligners are removable, you don’t need to make any drastic changes to your diet or lifestyle to ensure success.
The length of time Invisalign® treatment takes to complete varies according to each individual case. Most cases take 9-18 months, but complex cases will require more aligners and therefore take a longer time to complete. More straightforward cases can be expected to have a faster treatment time. We will advise you how long your Invisalign® treatment will take during your initial consultation.
Yes, Invisalign® aligners are designed with comfort in mind, which is important considering you need to wear them all the time. Digital technology ensures they have a snug and accurate fit, and no metal is present that could irritate your mouth.
Cleaning your teeth during your Invisalign® treatment couldn’t be easier! All you need to do is pop the aligners out of your mouth to allow you to clean and floss your teeth twice a day as usual.
If you lose or break one of your aligners, please don’t panic. Contact us as soon as possible so we can advise you of the next steps. In the meantime, it’s a good idea to wear an aligner from your previous set to prevent your teeth from moving too far out of line. We may arrange to get the aligner replaced with a new one, or may advise you to move straight onto your next set of aligners if this is appropriate.
Retainers are a vital part of your Invisalign® treatment. They keep your teeth in their newly straight positions, and prevent any unwanted movement. You will need to wear your retainers overnight for the long term, as this is the only way to maintain the work done by your Invisalign® treatment and keep your straight smile.
