What are veneers?

Veneers are very thin, tooth coloured shells that are securely placed on the front surface of a natural tooth to completely transform its appearance. They can be used to cover damage, small gaps or an irregular shape, conceal discolouration or simply to change the way your smile looks.

We use modern materials and techniques to achieve the very best results. Our veneers are exceptionally thin and strong, giving a natural look exactly the way you want it. A single veneer can be made to blend perfectly into your smile, and the treatment takes a far shorter time than some other cosmetic treatments, such as Invisalign.

What can veneers be used for?

Veneers are often used to:

  • Straighten teeth
  • Close gaps in teeth
  • Mask discoloured teeth
  • Repair broken teeth
  • Restore worn teeth
  • Lighten teeth beyond simple whitening
  • Help you achieve your dream smile

What does the treatment involve?

Book an appointment

If you are interested in veneers, we begin by examining your teeth and gums, checking they are healthy and you are able to undergo treatment. At this first appointment, you have the chance to ask us any questions, which we are happy to answer.

We take digital scans of your teeth in order to plan your treatment. We ask you about your ideal results, and the colour you would like your veneers to be, so we can create a truly incredible outcome. In some cases, we can use innovative technology to show you a preview of your smile after treatment.

If necessary, we prepare your teeth for the veneers by removing a thin layer of the enamel before taking further scans and impressions. This is not always needed, and we will discuss this at the consultation stage. Between your appointments, and while your veneers are being created, we place great looking temporary veneers to protect your prepared teeth.

When your final veneers are ready, we arrange your fitting appointment. We try the veneers on your teeth, making sure they look and feel exactly as you imagined. They are then fitted securely in place using strong dental cement.

Frequently asked questions

  • Having veneers fitted is not painful. As they are placed on the front surface of your teeth, undergoing the treatment shouldn’t hurt. You may find you feel some discomfort while your teeth are being prepared for veneers, but we can use local anaesthetic during this to keep you relaxed and comfortable.

  • Veneers should last for many years, but they can chip or break, just as your own teeth can. Your dentist will tell you how long each individual veneer should last. Small chips can be repaired, or a new veneer fitted if necessary.

  • Yes, porcelain veneers are very strong and durable once they are bonded to your tooth. They can even be used to strengthen otherwise weak teeth.

  • Veneers are very durable, but they need to be treated with care. Although they do not easily break, they still have the potential to chip or become damaged. Try to treat them with care so they last as long as possible. We can give you some tailored tips and advice.

  • Yes, it is very important to brush your veneers so they remain problem free, and to avoid any decay building up along the gum line or on the tooth under the veneer. The best thing to do is to treat your veneers as if they are your natural teeth, and keep up with an excellent cleaning routine at home. You should also visit your dentist for regular check ups.
